Also I do not know why you have a two-part line on that cable I hadn't seen you lift anything that would need a two-part if you one parted it you would not have any problems with the cable and number two it would go faster

Man you should look into marine solar powered battery tenders for your equipment. Whenever im away from home and don't have access to shore power i switch to solar and it hasn't let me down yet. Wont charge them from dead to well but works fine to keep a charged battery charged.

Andrew, if you had asked me beforehand, I would have told you to save your money. Pettibone cranes were noted for being cheaper than their competitors and a lot of them were purchased by railroad maintenance companies, who basically ran them into the ground I would have told you that if you needed to get a rough terrain crane, to look for a Grove instead. They are of better quality, being made by crane specialist Manitowoc. And in the end the Pettibone crashed and you wound up buying a Grove.

Andrew: u can install a 50 watt solar panel on top of the engine bay flat with a solar charge controller and that will keep the batts @ 100% when the crane sits for weeks on end and will make the batteries last double the life time and install a Desulphation unit on the battery which will help make the batteries last 3 times longer. If u have other machines that sit idol for a long time then I suggest the same thing for all of them. Just remember to clear/clean the panel from snow atleast once a week. Even on cars they will save u money on replacement batteries. Saves u the time doing maintenance charging and also taken the batts in and out which is a pain in the arse.

So, can you just replace 2 6volt batteries with one 12 volt? Also, as much as that thing sits put a good battery disconnect on it. Does it need a new starter too?
Andrew Camarata
Andrew Camarata - 10 måneder siden
The two 6 volt battery's are hooked in series, so its a 12 volt system. Yes, it can use a 12v battery as long as it has enough amps.

Unfortunately I'm stuck in London, living in a shoe box where building a book shelf is heavy industry!

Andrew - A little off topic here, but check out this bucket for winter plowing. I’m thinking of getting one if I can figure out where to buy it. I like the open top so I can somewhat see what’s going on and I like the wings. The wings seem to be more beneficial than the oversized wings I normally see. You plow about as much as I do, which is not so much that we need the big expensive buckets. This seems ideal. Interested to hear your thoughts on it. https://youtu.be/3tcxMmE2D9I

I was working on a project at a local papermill (retired IBEW electrician) that had several cranes onsite. One was a Pettibone, looked to be a little larger than the one in the video. The site was off limits to regular traffic, but a phone company employee kept parking his work van in the worksite area. Having been warned to keep out, he kept coming back and parked at the side of the Pettibone close to the rear wheel. The Pettibone operator came back from lunch, started up the machine, and proceeded to put out the outriggers. The outrigger on his right rear side went down thru the side of the van and pinned it to the ground. You should have seen the phone company guy when he came back. The van was totally destroyed, the Pettibone only got a few scratches.
