Since you mentioned it, Telephone Wire or Cable, having spent 27 and a half years in the telephone business, let me say that yes, they probably don't need that wire, but if they have it , it could save their communication needs at some point!!! this year of 2020 just showed you can not count on things going as you think they will. So just a thought from a long time phone man who sees people counting on Smart Phones way too much, and some day they will need a Ground Line and won't have one anywhere!!!

Of all the things I see wrong in this wire lay using caution tape it’s against national electric code
People have died because of stupid shit like that
I can only hope they make you dig it up And depth of trench is questionable
Not sanding it is not acceptable just lazy. Sand is required
The sad thing you have a computer you could look this up
I cannot imagine it was ever inspected
Just my humble opinion

Not smart at all
stager33 - Måned siden
The guy is not doing it t o code In my openion Get a National electric code book and have it on hand to look up the code pertaining to what your doing It is the minimum code to comply to the Authority having jurisdiction can have a stricter code As this is only to protect you From being sued. And having building permits and 3rd party inspections It all comes down to how much liability your willing to put your self into Ps . Is the primary going under the bridge in ridged steel conduet And is it marked ( danger high voltage) I'm not bagging on your work ethic But when dealing with primary high voltage Bad shit happens Be safe
Andrew Camarata
Andrew Camarata - Måned siden
stager33 when I was doing this I called the guy and asked him about that, he said use a caution instead, a lot of people around here don’t use any tape. But if someone was doing a culvert pipe it would be obvious that there’s an electric service going under that road, and it should’ve been marked out when they do their required locate.
stager33 - Måned siden
@Andrew Camarata om the tape you used first is required over primary cable for the Entire length It does two things 1 its a trace located 1 marks high voltage primary wire So let's say 2 years from now some one nees to put a nother culvert in the road They have no idea whats in that road They hit caution tape not dander high voltage tape They continue digging and boom Some one is electrocuted Whe is liable for them You are because you did not fallow code Thats my point! Just my humble opinion

Oh my god, you have made a big mistake for underground power line, you have to have a bed of sand for the cable and cover it with sand, as those rocks over time will break the cable.

Hi Andy, I'm a network technician for an ISP in Canada. It would be a good idea to add a pull cable into the cable conduit just in case they want to get DSL or a land line in the future, it would save them a ton of money as the ISP would charge thousands to dig a line that length in. I can tell by the telephone terminal on the pole (bottom one) that this is a pretty rural address but phone lines are still very popular due to them not going down during a power outage like cable phone lines do. Just a tip :D

Why did you have to sleeve the power cable ? Rocks ? Could you have used a direct bury cable in those conditions ?
I'm really curious what the cost per foot on the excavation that job was. Do you think the Ditch Witch would do it cheaper ?
How many feet were you digging an hour ? Do you think the Ditch Witch trench would be faster to close ? Would the Ditch Witch trench be wide enough for 2 conduits ?
Was that a 200A service ? Did the homeowner have to supply the transformer or did the utility company ?
Are you ever tempted to get a big hook on your D4 and rip the trench before excavating in high rock conditions ?
TechGuy - 2 måneder siden
I'm curious why you didn't use your larger excavator on that job. Is the smaller one faster on trenching jobs ?

How much did you charge for this kind of electrical trenching? We’re looking at several pieces of land land and currently my favorite option is about 3 acres off the main road behind another lot. It has an easement but we would have to run electrical to the lot from the road and I’m dreading the bids.
