I can see where tightening that clutch too much would cause something else to give out. And when that double chain broke it jammed up the gears and caused the other chain to break.
My dad had the same problem with his rototiller when he tightened the clutch on the tiller. The PTO shaft broke when the tiller hit something hard.

Andrew you know what you have to do to keep rocks out of inside the wheel of the dickwitch! There is to much room on both sides to allow rocks to get in and plug it up! I have seen you fix harder things in the past! I think you must have figured this out! Get-her-done!

I feel like the wheel should spin like 10 times faster, to have more momentum and depend less on the chains to move the momentum from the motor to the rotor when there's a rock in the way.
Additionally I would modify the housing to have a small ingress around and widen up substantially afterwards to avoid that stones get caught. It would also make sense to have a lower egress port for trapped stuff, so everything can egress to the sides immediately.

Tim from Canada one thing you do not post in any of your videos what the price is you charge for doing a job for example this job you just done digging a line from the road in and then you have to take up the rock and take out Route stop for example how much would you have charged to do this job it would be nice to know what your prices are so if people are going to get into this they have some idea on how to price jobs. I see you in your video did you create a bit of stuff it would be nice to know the pricing you use to do a job. ....

I live in the Red River valley in Winnipeg Manitoba. I use to trench with the Ditch Witch that had the big chain saw as the Digger.
Gumbo clay it was easy to dig unless it was raining. If that happened I turned into a lawyer and worked on a case. Of Labatts Blue..

Look at the amount of steel flywheel (Heavy as Hell) , Ditch Witch uses with those small chains? I'd say unload that machine with swiftness Andrew! Can you say track hoe.. With a flywheel of that mass, it should be geared, not chains & pillow blocked. That's just my opinion as a mechanic & machinist..take it for what it's worth. Love your honest videos..the real deal! PS: Looks like granite hell there..

Might have gone overboard on the tension, it is likely no coincidence it broke just after you tightened it. Better to have the rubber belts slip when it gets jammed up, then something expensive break. Don´t think it is sturdy enough to crush stones.
Frederick Thoms
Frederick Thoms - 2 måneder siden
I made exactly the same error when tightening the tensioner on a machine that mixed soil/cement to make roads in Australia - I was in the middle of f!ckin' nowhere and getting new chains took 4 weeks - my boss was not a happy camper.

You know they loosened that belt off because unlike you doing the fix they had to pay, big difference when you remove the mechanical fee for repairs. Already saw the chain fix video so now you have a decent rock saw for a few years. Cheers and Peace Out
